After the climax of a story, things generally start to settle down. The conflict that has been brewing throughout the story comes to a head, and (hopefully) is resolved. Once the dust has settled, the story often takes on a more reflective tone. Characters may process what has happened and learn from their experiences. In some cases, the resolution of the conflict may bring about additional challenges that need to be faced. But ultimately, the resolution is a chance for things to return to normal (or at least a new normal). It is a chance for the characters to move on from the events of the story and start fresh.
The rising action in literature is the part that comes after the exposition when the conflict begins to build and the stakes start to get higher. This is usually the part of the story where things start to get really exciting as the protagonist starts to face challenges and put up a fight. The rising action can often be full of twists and turns, keeping readers on the edge of their seats as they wonder what will happen next. Ultimately, the rising action leads to the climax, when everything comes to a head and the stakes are high.
